Erica Kauten, the recently retired director for Business and Manufacturing Extension, University of Wisconsin-Extension, is the recipient of the 2006 national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Supporter of Entrepreneurship Award.

MADISON, Wis.—Wild rice, the only major cereal grain native to North America, is plentiful in northern Wisconsin and the Upper Great Lakes region of the U.S and Canada. Residents of the region know the economic and cultural value of traditional wild rice, which is harvested sustainably on lakes by hand and often processed using traditional methods. In Wisconsin, there are seventy major rice fields in thirteen northern counties.

- New Publishing web site improves access to Extension information

It's easier than ever to find and use Extension information with Extension Publishing's newly designed web site—The Learning Store (http://learningstore.uwex.edu). Extension Publishing and CE Tech Services collaborated to create a site that was simpler to navigate, better organized and more attractive. Some of the site’s new features include brief descriptions of many publications, the ability to search by authors' names and an easier ordering system.

MADISON, Wis.—National Family Caregivers Month, observed every November, is a nationally recognized observance that seeks to draw attention to the many challenges facing family caregivers, advocate for stronger public policy to address family caregiving issues, and raise awareness about community programs that support family caregivers. In November, the Wisconsin Alliance for Family Caregiving, along with numerous national organizations, major corporations and community-based groups around the country, will celebrate National Family Caregivers Month to thank and support our nation’s family caregivers.
