WPT Begins New Season of "In Wisconsin" in September

Stories about the people, places and issues of Wisconsin continue

In Wisconsin's new season, premiering at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT), brings viewers provocative stories from around the state.

WPT's award-winning journalist Patty Loew anchors the half-hour program.

In Wisconsin's coverage has earned multiple awards including a Milwaukee Press Club Award, awards from the Northwest Broadcast News Association and the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. The program also contributed to WPT winning a 2004 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Journalism, a national honor.

Now, the journeys on the award-winning program continue with stories throughout the state. This season includes a series of reports about Great Lakes issues, follow-up reports from last season's meth series, a four-part series that follows five teens as they enroll in the Wisconsin National Guard and coverage of election-related issues.

Personal profiles will remain a hallmark of the program and include one on a family of Hurricane Katrina survivors transplanted in Milwaukee, another on a doctor who served and was injured in the Iraq war and now works as an advocate for injured veterans. Viewers will meet a Blanchardville man who has built and given away hundreds of bluebird houses and one of the founders of the International Crane Foundation.

Funding for In Wisconsin is provided, in part, by Alliant Energy, UW-Health and the Wisconsin Technical College System. Additional support for coverage of the Great Lakes is provided by the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

WPT is a service of the Educational Communications Board and University of Wisconsin-Extension.
