Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will air a tribute to civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as a program of excerpts taped live at the statewide celebration from the Capitol Rotunda in Madison earlier in the day. The hour-long program will air at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15.
The 27th annual event happens at noon and WPT also will provide a live Web stream of the celebrations at wpt.org. The program then will be archived at the site and can be accessed at any time in the future.
Wisconsin Public Radio's Jonathan Overby hosts the event that also will include remarks from Gov. Jim Doyle.
Roland S. Martin is the special guest speaker. The Chicago-based Martin is a newspaper editor, TV commentator, radio talk show host, Web publisher and book author. He has won more than 20 professional awards for journalistic excellence.
Others making an appearance at the commemoration will be the Heritage Dancers; All Saints Gospel Choir; Yawo Attivon, a West African musician and recording artist; and the Highway to Heaven big band.
