MADISON, Wis. — Here’s some exciting news that can help you plan a tax-effective strategy for your IRA distributions in 2007 while you support our favorite charity, but time is of the essence! For the tax year of 2007, taxpayers over the age of 70-1/2 years may donate up to $100,000 per year from an IRA to a charity or non-profit organization without having the distribution count as taxable income on their federal income tax return.

MADISON, Wis. — People who are age 65 can now expect to enjoy 20 to 25 years of retirement. However, that can also mean their retirement savings will be stretched beyond their expectations. Increasingly, retired adults are looking to financial planners and investment advisers to help them maximize their life savings. But because of their interest in investments, older adults are at greater risk of being victims of financial scams.

DODGEVILLE, Wis. — Families have many decisions to make about managing their money and whether or not children should get an allowance is one financial management choice parents need to make as their children grow up. Some parents are comfortable providing spending money for their children as requested. Other parents may be interested in helping their children learn to manage money and an allowance is one teaching method to consider.

MADISON, Wis. — A new University of Wisconsin study takes an objective look at the fiscal condition of Wisconsin communities through the lenses of local officials. Wisconsin municipalities have now operated under two years of levy limits and counties have had tax rate growth limits for over a decade. Despite this restrictions, Wisconsin remains in the top quartile of states when property taxes are measured on either a per capita or per $1,000 of personal income basis.

With increased personal debt and rising foreclosures, families need help managing their cash and credit. Financial education can help people obtain the lifelong skills to make good decisions about spending, saving, investing, credit use and other financial choices. The University of Wisconsin-Extension is working throughout Wisconsin to increase financial literacy for residents of all ages.

MADISON, Wis. — All of us suffer when the weather is hot. However, for older adults, people with disabilities and those with chronic health conditions, the weather does not have to hit extreme temperatures to cause heat stress or heat stroke.
