Next week, In Wisconsin on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) travels to southwest Wisconsin, where some of the most severe flooding damage occurred.
The newsmagazine airs 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. It encores at noon Sunday, Sept. 16, and 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18. Also airs at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 on WMVS-TV in Milwaukee.
Vernon and Crawford Counties suffered some of the state’s worst damage due to mid-August floods and now many farmers are counting their losses. Reporter Art Hackett talks to local organic vegetable growers about the damage to their farms and the difficulties of gaining insurance coverage for organic crops.
Until the state budget is agreed upon, reporter Frederica Freyberg will cover another aspect of the budget each week, in a series called “Budget Briefs.”
Next, see how A.J. Marhofke has trained his border collie, Zip in a new, specialized form of canine search. It takes the skills of ‘cadaver’ dogs one step further. In an effort to help families seek closure after a loved one has gone missing. Zip can find evidence as tiny as a tooth or one drop of blood.
Finally, learn about Community Car of Madison, a company that offers an alternative to those who find owning a car a pain, or want to drive less to help the environment. In Wisconsin reporter Andy Soth rides along with new Madison resident David Tolliver as he enjoys a car free life after selling his Ford Mustang. Tolliver has officially “divorced” his car at a ceremony sponsored by Community Car featured in the story.
