This week, In Wisconsin on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) takes a winter

hike to explore the signs of life that survive in the frozen tundra.

The newsmagazine airs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. It repeats at noon on

Sunday, Feb. 24. The program also airs at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24 on

WMVS-TV in Milwaukee.

It can hard to believe that life still abundantly exists with several feet

of snow on the ground in frozen temperatures. Naturalist John Bates takes us

for a winter-time hike along the Great Wisconsin Birding and Nature Trail in

the Little Turtle Flowage and points out to viewers some amazing signs of

life.

The University of Wisconsin¹s Trout Lake Research Station in Vilas County

has been collecting valuable data since the 1930s. A recent grant from the

National Science Foundation made it possible to staff the facility year

round. Reporter Art Hackett visits the station and explores the history and

significance of their research.

Community Car, a company that offers an alternative to those who find owning

a car a pain, or want to drive less to help the environment, is making its

mark in Madison. Reporter Andy Soth rides along with new Madison resident

David Tolliver as he enjoys a car-free life after selling his Ford Mustang.

Tolliver has officially ³divorced² his car at a ceremony sponsored by

Community Car featured in the story.

Veterinarians are an essential tool for Wisconsin¹s dairy farmers and their

herds. Unfortunately, rural clinics have had trouble recruiting young

veterinarian school graduates. Dr. Tim Grahn of Colby shows us what life is

like for a rural veterinarian and explains why his clinic hasn¹t been able

to replace two members of the practice who retired.
