This week, In Wisconsin on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) features a retired teacher who clears unexploded bombs in Laos, an interview with former Wisconsin Congressman Melvin Laird and the impact of the Gray Wolf on Wisconsin farms.
The newsmagazine airs at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8. The program also airs at noon on Sunday, May 11 on WPT and at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 11 on WMVS-TV in Milwaukee.
Producer Frederica Freyberg reports on a retired educator from the Wausau area who clears unexploded bombs in Laos six months out of the year. The rest of the year he spends educating young people in north-central Wisconsin about the problem.
Reporter Art Hackett interviews former Wisconsin Congressman Melvin Laird on his career and his role in establishing medical research facilities. Laird represented northern Wisconsin from 1953 until 1969 and served as Secretary of Defense in the Nixon administration.
JoAnne Garrett’s continuing series on the return of the wolf to Wisconsin introduces viewers to a Rice Lake farmer who has lost livestock to wolves. Garrett examines why this farm has been a source of depredation and how the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded to her situation.
