MADISON, Wis.—Sept. 18, 2008—People and entities that made exceptional contributions to the University of Wisconsin Colleges, the University of Wisconsin-Extension and Wisconsin residents' lives this past year have received awards from UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor David Wilson. These statewide and community partners and employees accepted their awards Thursday at the Chancellor's Award Banquet at the Lowell Center in Madison.
"These annual awards recognize the trail-blazing university extension and undergraduate education work being done here in Wisconsin," Wilson said. "This year's recipients were honored for their work in providing maximum access to university resources and knowledge, so that the people of Wisconsin can enjoy healthy lives, qualify for well-paying jobs, and contribute to economically and intellectually vigorous Wisconsin communities," he added.
The UW Colleges and UW-Extension 2008 Chancellor’s Awards recipients are:
Wisconsin Idea Award
Oakwood Fruit Farm/Applouis Registered Holsteins, Richland Center, has received the esteemed Wisconsin Idea Award for embracing opportunities to collaborate on university research and for generously sharing expertise and experience with others.
Friend and Advocate Award
Steve Anderson, president of the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County Foundation, is the recipient of a Friend and Advocate Award for energetically championing and building individual, business, local government and community support for a strong UW-Marathon County.
The Wisconsin Public Radio Association Board of Directors, comprised of 19 members from throughout the state, is also a recipient of a Friend and Advocate Award for providing the enthusiasm, knowledge and volunteer work that help make Wisconsin Public Radio a leading statewide source for news, information and culture.
Award for Excellence in Collaboration
The Sheboygan County Board of Supervisors is the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Collaboration for envisioning and supporting the expanded learning and outreach opportunities made possible by co-locating the University of Wisconsin-Extension Sheboygan County Office with the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan.
Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement
The Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement recognizes outstanding performance by an individual, program or unit that has advanced UW Colleges’ or UW-Extension’s commitment to civic engagement and/or service learning. The recipients for this award are:
- Nancy Coffey, Senior Lecturer and Coordinator, Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program, Eau Claire County, Cooperative Extension, UW-Extension
- Eric Giordano, Director, Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service, UW Colleges and UW-Extension
Career Award
Two employees were honored with a Career Award for outstanding and significant program, administrative or support contributions for more than a decade:
- Kathy Madigan, Payroll and Benefits Specialist, Payroll Department, UW Colleges
- Boyd E. Rossing, Community Development Specialist, Cooperative Extension, UW-Extension/Professor, School of Human Ecology, UW-Madison
Award for Outstanding Achievement
The following UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees were recognized for their outstanding performance during the past year:
- Nancy Dahmen, Financial Program Supervisor, Business Services, UW-Extension
- Kamela Goodwyn, Minority Business Specialist, Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network, Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, UW-Extension
- Melissa Anne Lake, Director, University Relations, UW-Marshfield/Wood County, UW Colleges
- Faye Malek, Associate Professor of Family Development, Family Living Educator/Department Head, Manitowoc County, Cooperative Extension, UW-Extension
- James W. Perry, Campus Executive Officer/Dean, UW-Fox Valley, UW Colleges
