Kenosha – There’s still time to register for the final two Annie’s Projects to be held on March 20 and March 27, 2009. The March 20 session of the Burlington Annie’s Project series will focus on grain marketing basics and USDA Farm Service Agency commodity loans. The March 27 session is titled Human Resources 101 and will provide answers to questions about hiring and managing agricultural employees.
Annie’s Project brings risk management tools and education to farm women so they can be better farm managers, whether that is in a partnership or on their own. The program also provides networking opportunities to discuss similar issues with other farming women.
University of Wisconsin-Extension in Racine, Kenosha and Walworth Counties invites farm women to attend the final two of the six session series of Annie’s Project. The March 20 and 27 sessions are scheduled to meet from 9 a.m. – noon at the Gateway Technical College, Burlington Center, 380 McCanna Parkway, Room 104.
On March 20 Alan Linnebur, Washington County UW-Extension’s Farm Business Ag Development Educator, will discuss the basic definitions and concepts of grain marketing and will also provide basic marketing strategies that new marketers can understand and implement. Kim Iczkowski, Racine County Farm Service Agency Executive Director, will provide information on USDA Farm Service Agency commodity loan programs.
On March 27 Todd Pfeil, from the law office Pfeil, Millonzi, & Curran, SC, will discuss hiring and managing farm employees, including applications, interviewing, overtime, wage payment requirements, child labor on the farm, unemployment and workers’ compensation.
