Lancaster, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin Lancaster Ag Research Station will host its 9th Annual Profitable Pastures Field Day from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009,
The Field Day will feature updates on current research and pasture management issues, including:
-- Winterhardiness Concerns with Pasture Grasses, Dan Undersander, UW-Extension and Research Forage Agronomist, UW-Madison
-- Grazing Heights and Weed Seedling Suppression, Marie Schmidt, Graduate Student, Agronomy Department, UW-Madison
-- Winter Feeding Options for Pasture Finishing Systems Rhonda Gildersleeve, UW-Extension Grazing Research Specialist, LARS
Following lunch cooked by the Grant County Cattlemen’s Association, a research station tour will provide the opportunity to discuss current projects, including: soy hulls as a pasture finishing supplement; grazing BMR sorghum sudangrass and corn; managed grazing of kura clover/soft leaf tall fescue at two steer stocking rates; Teff grass; and fall herbicide applications effects on spring red clover seedings.

The field day will be held rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for August Wisconsin weather and light walking. The UW Lancaster Research Station is located approximately 5 miles west of Lancaster at 7396 State Highways 35/81.
