Gayle Kugler, Wisconsin Small Business Development Center Network director, announced that Chuck Brys received the 2012 Wisconsin State Star award in recognition of his exemplary performance as a business advisor of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The center is one of 12 SBDCs and three specialty centers managed by UW-Extension. Brys received the award at the Sept. 11-14, 2012, Association of Small Business Development Centers conference in New Orleans, where one individual in each state was honored for their strong commitment to small business.
“Chuck Brys at the SBDC is one of my most trusted advisors,” said Cliff Orsted, owner of Door Landscape, Egg Harbor, Wis. “The SBDC has played a big part in our growth and success.”
Orsted’s business has more than quadrupled in size since the SBDC began working with him four years ago. Door Landscape is among 200 businesses Brys worked with closely last year, assisting in the creation of business plans, raising start-up funds, developing business concepts and managing marketing strategies. An SBDC counselor for five years, Brys also is a certified public accountant experienced in leading and growing manufacturing businesses.
“I’m pleased that Chuck received this national honor for his significant contributions to the work of the UW-Green Bay SBDC and small business in northeast Wisconsin,” Kugler said.
The UW-Green Bay SBDC helps entrepreneurs start and grow businesses through educational services. Working with hundreds of entrepreneurs every year, the SBDC helps improve business performance and turn ideas into viable business concepts. The center serves clients in Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Forest, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto and Shawano counties.
