When are the state holidays?

There are nine paid holidays per year:

  • January 1, 2012* - New Year's Day
  • January 16, 2012 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (third Monday)
  • May 28, 2012 - Memorial Day (last Monday)
  • July 4, 2012 - Independence Day
  • September 3, 2012 - Labor Day (first Monday)
  • November 22, 2012 - Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday)
  • December 24, 2012 - Christmas Eve Day
  • December 25, 2012 - Christmas Day
  • December 31, 2012 - New Year's Eve Day

* The UW Portal lists specifics about holidays that fall on weekend days.

How do I change my address?

To verify or update your office, home or email address for your payroll and benefits records, go to the My UW System portal.

How do I find out my leave balance?

If you have a faculty or academic staff appointment, your leave balance (vacation, sick leave, etc.) is indicated on the leave statement that arrives with your leave report and paycheck/earnings statement each month. If you have questions about your leave balance, contact Sreekumari Nair, Payroll and Benefits Specialist; phone: (608) 265-9034).

If you are a classified employee, your leave balance is indicated on your earnings statement that you receive bi-weekly. If you have questions about your leave balance, contact Kory Deavers, Payroll and Benefits Specialist; phone: (608) 262-1398).

What if I am missing one or more leave reports?

Fill out and submit to your supervisor a new Leave Report form (see forms page)for each month that a report is missing. It is important to submit leave reports on a timely basis so your leave statements accurately reflect your leave balance.

What if payday falls on a holiday or weekend?

If the normal payday falls on a holiday or weekend, the check will be paid on the previous non-holiday or the previous Friday if the pay date falls on a Saturday or Sunday. EXCEPTION: To avoid tax-related problems, the pay date for the monthly unclassified December payroll, which would be January 1 (New Year's Day), will be the next business day following the New Year's holiday.
