Bob Bade

My name is Robert Bade.  I’m currently working on a master’s degree in dairy science at the UW Madison under the advisor ship of Dr. Doug Reinemann.  I will finish my degree during the summer of 2007.  I received my bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in May of 2005.  There I earned a double major in ag business and ag science.  I grew up on a small dairy farm outside of Varna, IL with my parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.  The family farm is still operated today by my parents, and currently we are milking about 70 cows and farming a small amount of land.  I credit my family and the farm I grew up on to my strong interest in dairy and agriculture.  After my time is done at the UW Madison I plan on staying in the dairy/agriculture field.  Most likely I will pursue positions in the industry, possibly doing some sort of consulting work.  I have a desire to be close enough to work on my family’s farm or have some sort of operation of my own on the side.

My work at the UW Madison involves:

-Milking center options, design, and dimensions.

            -Water usage on dairy farms.

-Extension Parlor User Groups (User groups that meet throughout the state to discuss concerns of milking parlor managers in the area.   We then try to address these concerns and report back to individual farms and the group as a whole of our findings).

-Relationships between milk liner properties and milking parlor settings/qualities and their effects on milking attributes

-Teat Condition

-Parlor Efficiency

-Bacteria load on teats as a result of bedding types and practices

-Various other milking system, parlor, and dairy farm management issues
