Research interests At the WGNHS, we propose and carry out applied projects having specific practical goals, but each project contains a research component. My areas of research include the geologic and geochemical factors affecting arsenic in Wisconsin’s groundwater, regional hydrogeology of western Wisconsin, flow and contaminant transport across aquitards, and groundwater use rates in Wisconsin. My goal is to publish results from this research in ways that are useful to local and state officials responsible for managing the water resources of Wisconsin.Part of the mission of the WGNHS is to collect, interpret, disseminate, and archive natural resource information. I participate in projects at the WGNHS designed to improve the ways in which we offer information to the public. For example, we would like to make our geologic and hydrogeologic databases available in digital formats that are easy to use and well documented. Geologic database Collaborations I collaborate with faculty and students in the Hydrogeology Group in the Department of Geology and Geophysics, UW–Madison, where I hold an Affiliate Faculty appointment.I also work with colleagues in the U.S. Geological Survey, Wisconsin Water Science Center, Middleton, Wisconsin. I work with colleagues throughout UW–Extension, including faculty and staff at the Center for Watershed Science and Education and several UW–Extension county offices, including Iowa County and Winnebago County.
