New report on Winnebago County released

Larger image of Glacial Lake Oshkosh sediment in the Ames Construction Borrow pit

The glaciers that once pushed across Wisconsin played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of Winnebago County. This new report, written by geologists Thomas Hooyer and William Mode, describes the forces that created the lakes, moraines, and drumlins. It also identifies the underlying bedrock that forms the aquifers used by municipal and high-capacity industrial wells as well as residential wells in the region. Two full-color maps make it easy to see the location of various surface sediments, and cross sections provide a general picture of what lies beneath. Useful for planners, developers, and others making land-use decisions as well as those interested in learning about the geological history of the county.
