2009-2010 Building Communities Program - This year's program theme is "Community Development in a Difficult Economy … Readying for the Rebound". Beginning on November 17th and offered the third Tuesday of each month (except December), seven webinar programs will explore various economic development strategies, such as Broadband, housing, and retaining creative workers, to rebuild and sustain communities as we come out of recession. Get Checking Workshop -Want to save money cashing your paychecks? Want a safe place to keep your funds? Need a second chance? Then come to a Get Checking workshop! By attending a Get Checking workshop you can sharpen your financial skills and qualify for a checking account. Get Checking workshops offer a convenient way to open a checking account, even if you have never had one, or had problems with one in the past. The next workshop is scheduled for October 6, 2009 from 5:30 - 8:30 PM at Citizens First Credit Union, Hwy 44 & Universal Ave.,, Oshkosh. Rent Smart Workshops provide practical education to help people looking for rental housing to acquire and keep decent housing. Rent Smart emphasizes skills that may help tenants avoid legal confrontations. It stresses tenant and landlord responsibilities and the advantages gained from viewing the landlord-tenant relationship as mutually beneficial rather than confrontational. Workshops feature hands-on activities and guest speakers from community agencies including Legal Action of Wisconsin and the Financial Information Service Center (FISC) which offers consumer credit counseling. County Zoning ReWrite Project Underway
Winnebago County, with the assistance of CiviTek Consulting, is embarking on a major project to rewrite its Town/County zoning code and replace it with a modern, user friendly, zoning code. The Oshkosh Collaboration Work Group brings together agencies and organizations throughout Winnebago County to help meet the needs of individuals and families. Meetings are held monthly , September through June, the 4th Monday of the month at the JP Coughlin Center, 625 E. County Road Y, Oshkosh. Each month in 2008-2009, the Workgroup will be exploring one of the chapters of the “Local Indicators for Excellence (L.I.F.E.) in Winnebagoland 2008”.
