Professional Development
Cooperative Extension
actively supports individuals' professional and career development
objectives. The professional development program consists of
three categories of activities:
- Self-directed
Professional Development Activities
These
activities are identified by individuals and may be offered by
Cooperative Extension or other universities, organizations, agencies
or businesses. The primary source of funding will be district
(for county faculty and staff), program area and departmental
funds (for integrated faculty and staff). Grants and other support
also should be identified and combined with internal funding.
- Institution
and Program Area Professional Development
These
activities are offered by program areas or Cooperative Extension
to faculty and staff in Cooperative Extension. They include such
activities as state program area meetings, district meetings
and statewide Cooperative Extension Faculty and Staff Conference.
- Program Specific
Professional Development
These
activities are developed and conducted by program areas, issue
teams and the program development and evaluation unit. They are
intended to increase knowledge of specific program initiatives.
These offerings are elective.
Policies and
Procedures for Professional Development
Individuals
should apply for funding support for self-directed activities
through district offices. UW-Extension travel procedures apply
to attendance at these activities. Combining funding from various
