Digital Asset Management
This Web site brings together information collected
and generated by the University of Wisconsin-Extension's Digital
Asset Management project team. The Web site serves as both an education
tool and a reference for some of the central concepts, readings,
resources and information relating to DAM. Most simply, DAM is a
system whereby we can share and re-use our individual resources
to the benefit of all. Definitions and readings are available from
this Web site.
The Digital Asset Management project team involves
key players from all UW-Extension Divisions: Broadcasting and Media
Innovations, Business and Manufacturing, Cooperative Extension,
Extension Information Systems and Outreach and E-Learning. Individuals
representing Wisconsin Public Television, Wisconsin Public Radio,
County Extension agents and specialists, continuing education, Small
Business Development Center, distance education and instructional
technology and information systems are included in our list of contacts.
Work has been ongoing. The goal of this project
shifted as the team learned more about the complexities of the topic.
Originally it was anticipated that the team would oversee the creation
of a prototype, or even an actual DAM system. After additional research
and much consideration and discussion, the team decided it first
needed to lay a strong foundation if a Digital Asset Management
system was to function within UW-Extension. The first stages must
include both educating the users about the topic and changing the
culture of how work is accomplished. The team realized that DAM
is a process, not a product. It requires a different kind of action
than was originally intended. The vision remains the same: to provide
seamless access to data, video, sound, images and documents through
a Web-based interface.
The initial project was funded by a grant from
the UW-Extension 2001-2002 Cross Divisional Program Innovation Fund.
The work continues with additional support from UW-Extension.
This Web site is a work in progress and will be
added to and modified throughout the course of the UW-Extension's
Digital Asset Management process.
