Online learning opportunities for rural schools
REL Midwest is hosting a free, full-day workshop designed to provide rural educators and stakeholders with research-based information on virtual school environments and online learning. This session is part of REL Midwest’s Connecting Research to Practice series and will be held in conjunction with the Annual Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning. This will provide an opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and other PK-12 regional stakeholders to exchange ideas, research findings, and best-practice information pertaining to distance learning and training.
The day will feature presentations by experts in rural education and online learning, a panel discussion with educators, and facilitated small-group discussions. The agenda includes:
- Keynote address by Matthew Irvin, PhD, with the IES-funded National Research Center on Rural Education Support, on the enhancement of educational outcomes for rural children through online learning opportunities.
- Discussion and reactions from a panel of rural educators from across the region.
- Facilitated small-group discussions about the research and resources presented throughout the day.
- Concluding remarks from all presenters and a final chance for participants to ask questions and give feedback.
