R*TEC sponsors a symposium of experienced users, and a publication providing advice to policy-makers in schools, districts, states and federal agencies. -

This white paper (July 2006) "measures videoconferencing adoption in K-12 schools as of mid-2006, and attempts to answer several questions: what is the extent of adoption in any particular state, and how many schools and classrooms are likely to be enabled for professional-quality videoconferencing on a national and state-by-state basis. Wainhouse Research believes that close to 23,000 public, primary and secondary school classrooms or administrative offices have been equipped with videoconferencing as of early 2006." -

Internet Access in U.S. Public Schools and Classrooms: 1994-2001
This report from the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics presents data by U.S. school characteristics. It provides trend analysis on the progress of public schools and classrooms in connecting to the Internet and on the ratio of students to instructional computers with Internet access. Links to tables and additional related reports are also available. Published September, 2002. -
Rates of Computer and Internet Use by Children in Nursery School and Students in Kindergarten Through Twelfth Grade: 2003
This Issue Brief describes the percentage of students in grades 12 or below who used computers or the Internet in 2003. The Brief highlights the fact that computer and Internet use is commonplace and begins early. Even before kindergarten, a majority of children in nursery school use computers and, and 23 percent use the Internet. Web Release Date: December 10, 2005. -
Distance Education Courses for Public Elementary and Secondary School Students: 2002-03
From the National Center for Education Statistics: "This public school district survey is the first national survey to explore distance education courses for public elementary and secondary school students. The report provides national estimates of the number of districts and schools with students enrolled in distance education courses, as well as the number of enrollments in those courses. In addition, it examines the reported reasons for having distance education courses, the instructional level of the populations served, entities delivering the courses to students, and data pertaining to online courses. Data about curriculum areas and technology in distance education courses are also discussed. Survey findings are presented at the national level and by school district characteristics such as metropolitan status, district enrollment size, region, and poverty concentration."
