Madison, Wis. – January 26, 2011 – President Barack Obama’s Main Street Tour includes a stop today at Orion Energy Systems Inc., a Manitowoc-based company that has been served by the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network (WEN).
Orion designs and manufactures energy efficient lighting and renewable solar technology for commercial and industrial customers. Neal Verfuerth, chief executive officer, founded the company in 1996. The company now employs more than 250 and reported revenues of $72.6 million for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009.
Mike Potts, president and chief operating officer, said, “The Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network helped our company explore opportunities for research and development funding. That kind of assistance is a valuable resource for Wisconsin businesses.”
The University of Wisconsin-Extension – through the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network and Wisconsin Small Business Development Centers – helps entrepreneurs create new businesses and grow existing businesses by providing training; information about financial, technology and other resources; one-on-one business counseling; and networking opportunities. The Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network helps businesses learn the ropes about federal research and development funding, commercialization efforts and financing opportunities.
“WEN helps companies develop the new ideas that are key to providing high value products in a global market and creating new jobs in Wisconsin,” says Kurt Waldhuetter, WEN regional director for business development and technology transfer.
