The Youth & Family Extension Educator designs, delivers, and evaluates research-based educational programming and services aligned with the position’s programmatic focus. The Youth & Family Extension Educator is an employee of the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension within the Youth and Families Institute of the Department of Youth, Family, and Community Development. The Youth & Family Extension Educator is also a primary member of one of the centers within the Youth & Family Institute, either the Center for Human Development & Relationships, the Center for Positive Youth Development, or the Center for Wisconsin 4-H. If appropriate and desired, Extension Educators can affiliate with other Cooperative Extension centers in order to best address the programmatic focus of the position.
This Youth & Family Extension Educator position will primarily serve Shawano County. Through this position, this individual will carry out programming that directly addresses the local needs of the community and is approved by the Area Extension Director and Center Director(s). In addition to the focus on Human Development & Relationships, Positive Youth Development or Wisconsin 4-H, the Youth & Family Extension Educator’s programs will respond to local needs, and will provide a connection to the broader University of Wisconsin research, education, and outreach resources. Specific and identified local needs of Shawano County include: expanding leadership experiences for youth, strengthening community collaborations to increase opportunities for youth to build life skills, and increasing training opportunities for adult volunteers to enhance youth engagement in 4-H experiences. This position also leads and manages the full range of the 4-H Youth Development programs including community clubs, after school programs, educational events and camps for Shawano County.
