Marv Van Kekerix

Brief Biographical Statement - May 1, 2006
As Provost and Vice Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Extension, Marv Van Kekerix serves as the institution's chief academic and operating officer. He provides broad leadership for academic and program planning, and administrative support areas including Human Resources and Information Systems.
Marv was first appointed as Provost and Vice Chancellor of UW-Extension in October 2000, having served as the interim provost since July 2000. Marv served as Interim Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Extension from September 2004 through April 2006.
Through the University of Wisconsin-Extension, all Wisconsin people can access university resources and engage in lifelong learning, wherever they live and work. As Provost and Vice Chancellor, Marv oversees a diverse range of educational programs in UW-Extension's four divisions: Broadcasting and Media Innovations, Business and Manufacturing Extension, Cooperative Extension, and Outreach and E-Learning.
Before joining the UW-Extension staff, Marv served as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Extension at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for seven years. In that position, he was responsible for Credit Outreach, Outreach Education, and University Telecommunications and Distance Learning Resources. Before moving to Wisconsin, Marv was Director of the Department of Academic Telecommunications and Professional Development in the Division of Continuing Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Marv has been involved in distance education since 1973. He has worked with a variety of telecommunications-based delivery systems, and is a co-author of Reaching Learners through Telecommunications: Management and Leadership Strategies for Higher Education (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 1993) with Becky Duning and Lee Zaborowski. This publication won the Mildred B. and Charles A. Wedemeyer Award for Outstanding Contribution in the Application of Distance Education in North America in 1994.
Marv earned his Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts at the University of South Dakota. He received his Ph.D. in Community and Human Resources from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
